Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic spoke by phone with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg about the situation in the northern part of Kosovo and Metohija, the president's office announced, as quoted by "Danas" newspaper.

Jens Stoltenberg said that the NATO force in Kosovo KFOR is ready to intervene based on its UN mandate if stability in Kosovo is threatened, Tanjug added.

"I spoke with the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, about the tensions in northern Kosovo. All countries should engage constructively in EU-mediated dialogue and overcome differences through diplomacy. NATO and KFOR are ready to intervene if stability is threatened, based on his UN mandate, Stoltenberg wrote on Twitter after the meeting.

Vucic and Stoltenberg agreed that dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina needs to continue and that peace and stability are crucial for Serbia and the region, as well as for all those living in Kosovo and Metohija.

During the conversation with the NATO Secretary General, President Vucic presented Serbia's position on the extremely difficult situation in Kosovo and Metohija and informed him about Pristina's actions, which cause additional fear and anxiety among citizens of Serbian nationality.

Vucic emphasized once again that Serbia has not violated either the Brussels Agreement or Resolution 1244 with any move, as it has not threatened the preservation of peace in any way.

He stated that Belgrade continues to behave responsibly and seriously in solving the problems and open issues related to Kosovo.

The two agreed to continue direct communication in order to preserve peace and stability in the entire region.

President Vučić thanked General Secretary Stoltenberg for his correct attitude and willingness to listen to the Serbian side, the president's office said in a statement.
