"The German railway operator Deutsche Bahn wants to motivate its employees to save energy at their workplace by giving them a one-time bonus of at least 100 euros per person," informed DPA, quoted by BTA.

"We want all of our 200,000 employees in Germany to take initiative," said Martin Seiler, head of Human Resources at Deutsche Bahn.

"We can save energy on lighting, on heating, when we use air conditioning, when we refuel, or maybe if we use the stairs instead of the elevator," Seiler noted.

If "Deutsche Bahn" saves a certain amount of energy, which is not specified, then all employees of the company may receive bonuses of 150 euros each.

Seiler emphasized other measures the company envisions to save energy amid looming natural gas supply problems.

Deutsche Bahn plans to replace its heating installations, which run on fossil fuels, with modern heating systems that use alternative energy sources.

In addition, the company intends to turn off the lighting on the facade of its central administration building.

The railway operator Deutsche Bahn is the largest consumer of electricity in Germany.

Its annual consumption amounts to about 10 terawatt hours.
