Zawahiri, who spoke Arabic and French, was a surgeon by profession, becoming a member of the Muslim Brotherhood at the age of 14.

Zawahiri formed the Egyptian Islamic Jihad (EIJ).

After the assassination of Egyptian President Anwar Sadat in 1981, Zawahiri was arrested and tortured.
After three years in prison in Egypt, he fled to Saudi Arabia and began practicing at the Department of Medicine.
It was in Saudi Arabia that al-Zawahiri met al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden in 1985.
From here the relationship between the two terrorists started getting stronger.
After this, in 2001, al-Zawahiri merged the EIJ with al-Qaeda and both began plotting to shake the world.

Rumors had been circulating since late 2020 that al-Zawahiri had died of the disease.
A recent report by the UN Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team confirmed that Zawahiri was living in Afghanistan and communicating freely.
