New Delhi:

Al-Qaeda chief Ayman al-Zawahiri (al-zawahiri) was killed by the US at the age of 71.

Jawahar was killed 11 years after Osama bin Laden was killed.

The US had placed a $25 million bounty on him.

Important information related to the case:

  • Ayman al-Zawahiri was born on 19 June 1951 in an affluent Egyptian family.

Zawahiri, who spoke Arabic and French, was a surgeon by profession, becoming a member of the Muslim Brotherhood at the age of 14.

In 1978, he married Aja Nowari, a Philosophy student at Cairo University.

  •  Zawahiri formed the Egyptian Islamic Jihad (EIJ).

This organization opposed secular rule in Egypt in the 1970s.

His demand was that the Islamic rule should be established in Egypt.

After the assassination of Egyptian President Anwar Sadat in 1981, Zawahiri was arrested and tortured.

After three years in prison in Egypt, he fled to Saudi Arabia and began practicing at the Department of Medicine.

  • It was in Saudi Arabia that al-Zawahiri met al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden in 1985.

From here the relationship between the two terrorists started getting stronger.

After this, in 2001, al-Zawahiri merged the EIJ with al-Qaeda and both began plotting to shake the world.

  • Zawahiri took over the command of the organization after the death of Osama bin Laden in a US attack.

In 2011 he became the head of al-Qaeda.

He is believed to be behind the terrorist attacks in many places around the world.

  • The US alleges that on September 11, 2001, 19 terrorists hijacked four commercial planes.

Two of these planes collided with the North and South Towers of the World Trade Center.

2977 people from 93 countries were killed in this attack.

The attack was carried out by the terrorist organization Al Qaeda.

The US alleges that Osama bin Laden was helped by al-Zawahari.

  • Al-Zawahiri had just turned 71 years old.

11 years after America killed Osama bin Laden, America has killed the terrorist leader just like Osama.

  • On 7 August 1998, near-simultaneous bombs were detonated in front of US embassies in Nairobi, Kenya, and in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania in Africa – the explosions killed 224 people, including 12 Americans, and injured more than 4,500. Jawahar was behind this.

  • Al Zawahiri was indicted in 1998 for his alleged role in the August 7, 1998 bombings of the United States embassies in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and Nairobi, Kenya.

  • In May 2003, simultaneous suicide bombings in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, killed 23 people, including nine Americans.

A few days later a tape was released, which included the voice of Zawahiri.

  • Zawahiri's whereabouts had long remained a mystery.

Rumors had been circulating since late 2020 that al-Zawahiri had died of the disease.

A recent report by the UN Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team confirmed that Zawahiri was living in Afghanistan and communicating freely.
