Income tax raids have been conducted on the premises of celebrities associated with the film industry in Tamil Nadu.

The Income Tax Department today raided 40 premises belonging to more than ten celebrities associated with the film industry in Tamil Nadu.

The department has taken this action regarding suspected tax evasion by some Tamil filmmakers and distributors.

Income Tax Department today searched more than forty places across Tamil Nadu.

The raids are being conducted at premises belonging to around 10 Tamil filmmakers and distributors, including Kalaipuli Thanu, SR Prabhu, Anbu Chezhiyan and Gyanvel Raja, officials said.

The officials started the search and seizure operation at around 6 am, which is still going on. 

The real estate company has already been


raided. Before this, on July 27, the Income Tax Department had seized Rs 150 crore of black money by raiding the Real Estate and Rail and Road Construction Contract Company of Tamil Nadu.

The CBDT official had said that on July 20 in Madurai and Chennai, the department officials conducted a search operation at about 30 places of these two groups.

Till now the Income Tax Department had sealed more than 14 crore cash, jewelery worth 10 crore rupees.

Investigation revealed that the real estate group had taken huge amount of cash.

The group had also put in place a software to keep track of such unaccounted transaction figures.

The department is questioning the owners of the groups in this matter.

According to the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), a group is engaged in the real estate business.

The second group takes up contracts for rail and road construction.

On July 20, during raids at around 30 premises of both the groups located in Madurai and Chennai, undeclared cash worth Rs 14 crore and gold and jewelery worth Rs 10 crore were seized.
