China condemns Pelosi's visit to Taiwan and will take all necessary measures to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said in a statement, as quoted by Xinhua News Agency.

"On August 2, Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi visited China's Taiwan region, ignoring China's strong opposition and official protests. This is a serious violation of the one-China principle and the provisions of the three joint communiques of China and U.S. It has a severe impact on the political foundation of Sino-US relations and seriously violates China's sovereignty and territorial integrity. It seriously undermines the peace and stability of the Taiwan Strait and sends an extremely wrong signal to separatist forces of "Taiwan independence." China strongly opposes and condemns this, expressing strong protest to the US," the communique said.

The position of the Chinese government and people on the Taiwan issue is consistent.

This is the firm commitment of more than 1.4 billion Chinese people to resolutely defend state sovereignty and territorial integrity, the text also states.

Earlier today, Pelosi arrived in Taiwan.

At the airport in Taipei, the American delegation headed by her was met by Taiwan's Foreign Minister Joseph Wu, notes BTA.
