The International Committee of the Red Cross reported that it did not receive access to the colony in Alenivka from the Russian authorities that control the region, the organization wrote on Twitter.

She previously stated that she is ready to support the return and transfer of human remains and plans to deliver news to families who have lost contact with loved ones as a result of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.

"We note that our request yesterday for access to prisoners of war from the Alenevka colony was not granted.

Providing the ICRC with access to prisoners is an obligation of the parties to the conflict in accordance with the Geneva Conventions," the organization wrote.

Thus, Russia violated the Geneva Convention.

The ICRC promises to ask for access to the colony and beyond.

Red Cross officials also want to inspect whether wounded prisoners are receiving proper care.

On July 29, at least 53 Ukrainian soldiers who were held captive died in the colony in Alenivka.

Russia and pro-Russian separatists in Donetsk claim that the attack on the colony was carried out by the Ukrainian army.

Moscow calls what happened a war crime committed by Ukraine.

Kyiv denies this and claims that the attack was carried out by Russia.
