The Kremlin announced today that they stand in solidarity with China a day after the warning sent by Chinese leader Xi Jinping to US President Joe Biden "not to play with fire" on the issue of Taiwan, France Press reported.

"Of course, we are in solidarity, we respect China's sovereignty and territorial integrity," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told the media, quoted by BTA.

Joe Biden and Xi Jinping had over a two-hour phone call

He spoke out against any action capable of escalating the situation.

Peskov's statement was a comment on Xi Jinping's warning during his video call with Joe Biden about the situation with Taiwan.

China considers Taiwan part of its territory, which it must take back if necessary - and by force.

Beijing has been threatening for several days with "consequences" if the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, goes ahead with her plan to visit the island.

Although American representatives often visit Taiwan, China sees a possible visit by Pelosi as a serious provocation, given that she holds one of the most important posts in the United States.

Despite the resulting tension, yesterday Xi Jinping and Joe Biden agreed to a future first live meeting with each other.
