Kharge urged the ruling party's remarks about Sonia Gandhi to be removed from the proceedings of the House

New Delhi:

Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge on Friday urged Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu to remove from the proceedings of the House the remarks made by the ruling party about Congress President Sonia Gandhi in the Upper House. Because the Union Ministers have violated parliamentary procedures and conventions.

Kharge says that the issue related to the addressing of President Draupadi Murmu by Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury as 'national wife' by Leader of Congress in Lok Sabha was raised by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Leader of the Upper House Piyush Goyal on Thursday. During this, both mentioned Sonia Gandhi who is not a member of Rajya Sabha.

In a letter to Naidu, he said, "You (Naidu) yourself are well aware of parliamentary procedures and conventions.

It has been a convention that in this House no mention or critical remarks are made about the Second House or its members." The question related to the privileges of a member cannot be raised in this House.

Kharge said, "I request you to remove from the record the remarks made by Nirmala Sitharaman and Piyush Goyal on July 28 with reference to Sonia Gandhi.

I also urge that both the ministers apologize as they have violated parliamentary procedures and conventions.

Regarding Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury's remark, the Finance Minister had said in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday, "It is an insult to the President.

this is unacceptable.

Congress and its president should apologize for this.

Leader of the House Piyush Goyal also surrounded the Congress in the Rajya Sabha on this subject.

He had demanded an apology from the Congress President on the subject and asked, "Does the Congress want to bind the President's post on the basis of caste-line."
