Isabela Arias Hidalgo, is an eleventh grade student at the IPU "José Luis Tasende" of the Media Luna municipality,

the only representative of the Granma province who will appear at the Central American and Caribbean Physics Olympiad (OCACFI).

She, along with three other colleagues from other provinces, will represent Cuba in this important event that will take place

online

from July 30 to August 6

.

Why Physics?

“When I was 12 years old when I entered high school, I was struck by the way in which Professor Alexeis Díaz Castillo carried out experiments in the laboratory, they were simple experiments that he planned for his classes, but I loved them, and I always looked for them. And I told him, teacher I want to learn, I want to learn, it was then that he started training me and since the eighth grade I have been a Physics contestant, that year I did not get a place because in that same course I qualified for five nationals in the subjects of English, Biology , Spanish, History and Physics.

“In ninth grade, yes, I dedicated myself completely to the subject of Physics, in that same course, I was a silver medalist in the national.

Then the pandemic came and although I distanced myself from Physics a bit, I only watched documentaries, but did not exercise, I completely disassociated myself.

When I entered tenth grade, I won the provincial, but due to COVID-19 there was no national, so I kept training with my teacher Ricardo, we communicated by WhatsApp and everything was

online

”.

Arias Hidalgo reports that she is surprised at herself because she never thought to get into all the content prior to the National Contest in such a short time.

For her, the support of her family, who have always accompanied her at all times, has been very important.

"At the age of three she learned to read, all by herself, without anyone guiding her, that's when we knew, her father and I, that she would be an intelligent and very applied girl."

"Every time you look at her, she is with a book in her hand, she is always studying," argues Rosa María Hidalgo López, Isabela's mother.

“With Isabela we have worked a lot, even without being from the IPVCE, she is a very intelligent student and progresses very quickly, we hope that the results are as expected, because she has talent for that”, says Uberlando Labrada Casí, Master in Education Sciences , who since 2005 has been coaching the Granma team for competitions, and since 2012 he has trained students from the national pre-selection, with a range of relevant results inside and outside the country.

Who would you like to thank for the results obtained so far?

“First of all to my parents, who have supported me and followed me on this path, they have become my students, although most of the time they don't understand what I'm talking about.

I also thank my coaches Alexis Díaz Castillo, from high school, Ricardo Vázquez Mestre, from the IPU, and finally my pre-selection coach, Uberlando Labrada Casí, to all of them: thank you very much”.

This is how the interview minutes end.

Isabela returns to her world between omegas, breasts and constants.

This young girl would like to study Nuclear Physics, in addition to learning to play the violin

, as it is the favorite musical instrument of Albert Einstein, her idol.
