In two weeks I will reach the peak of the new wave of the coronavirus.

The Commission for Infectious Diseases (KSI) says that there is no place for panic, and they are even thinking about softening the measures even further.

The head of this Commission, Aleksandër Petličkovski, said that 80% of cases in the last month are attributed to the BA.5 variant of Omicron, which is much easier to spread, but has mild and non-dangerous symptoms.

"It seems that there is a large increase in new cases, but few of those positive in a small percentage end up in the hospital even less often with a serious clinical picture.

This means that the pressure on the health system is not high so far, but we expect in a few weeks there will be an even greater increase in cases where we will approach the peak of this wave.

With the increase in cases, there is a possibility that a large number of them will end up in the hospital", declared Aleksandar Petličkovski, chairman of KSI.

The Commission for Infectious Diseases is considering the possibility of lifting the quarantine of those diagnosed positive, who are without symptoms.

Currently, the self-isolation measure of 7 days applies to those who have symptoms, while contact persons are not tested.

On Friday, KSI will decide whether to reduce it to 5 days.

He calls for care for the category of citizens with weakened health.

"Now we recommend wearing masks, distance and personal hygiene, renewing immunity with vaccination especially for the risk categories, such as: the elderly, people with other diseases, pregnant women, those who are more exposed, health workers and others, it is recommended taking booster doses for those who have not received the 3rd and 4th and of course care for personal hygiene", said Aleksandar Petličkovski, chairman of KSI.

So far, only the vaccinated are responding to the call for vaccination.

During the month of July, since the fourth dose began to be given, more than 5,000 citizens have renewed their immunity with the second booster.

About 700 people were vaccinated with the third dose, while the number of those vaccinated with the first and second dose in July is significantly lower.

But the test centers have started to fill up.

During the last week, 55% of the 10,000 PCR tests performed have been identified as positive, where out of the 4,300 diagnosed with the corona virus, around 200 are being treated in hospital throughout the country./Alsat/
