Punjab province .

He was administered the oath of office by the President of Pakistan.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday termed the Punjab Assembly's deputy-speaker's decision unconstitutional and named PML-Q leader Elahi as the chief minister of the politically important province.

This decision has dealt a big blow to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, as his son Hamza Sharif has also been stripped of the status of "trustee" Chief Minister (CM).

Pervez Elahi, who lost Friday's election despite securing a majority, challenged the decision of deputy speaker Dost Mazari, in which Prime Minister Sharif's son Hamza was declared the winner.

Chaudhary Pervez Elahi became the Chief Minister of Punjab in Pakistan

The Supreme Court on Tuesday night termed as "illegal" Mazari's controversial decision to set aside 10 votes in Punjab's chief ministerial election and said Imran Khan's party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Supported candidate Elahi will be the new Chief Minister of Punjab.

It was being directly believed to be a nose fight between Imran Khan and Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif.

Imran Khan had said that Pakistan could become Sri Lanka if the government tried to rigging votes.

At the same time, he had said that after the victory in Punjab, he would intensify the demand for general elections in the country.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Atta Bandiyal, Justice Ijazul Ahsan and Justice Muneeb Akhtar ordered Punjab Governor Balig-ur-Rehman to administer the oath to Elahi.

However, Rahman has refused to take the oath.

After this, Elahi left for Islamabad late Tuesday night to administer the oath to Pakistan President Arif Alvi on the orders of the Supreme Court.

Alvi administered the oath to Elahi on Wednesday morning.

According to the news of 'Geo News', President Alvi had sent a special plane to bring Elahi to Islamabad for the swearing-in ceremony.
