The Pelesac Bridge, which will be officially opened tonight (Tuesday), will connect the south of Croatia with the rest of the country.

And according to the Croatian media, Telegraph reports, this historic event for Croatia will be marked throughout the day with a program that takes place on both sides of the bridge - in Brijesto and Komarno.

The bridge, whose entire concrete structure under and above the water together weighs as much as 30 Eiffel Towers, is the largest Croatian infrastructure project financed by EU funds with a non-refundable amount of 357 million euros (85 per percent of the cost), and was worked on for ten years - by several governments.

It crosses a sea strait 2140 meters wide, is 2404 meters long, with a navigation profile under the bridge of 200 by 55 meters and its main designer and responsible is Marjan Pipenbacher.

It is about the Slovenian engineer who has more than 200 such projects behind him.

In an interview for the Slovenian media on the occasion of its opening, he stated that he believes that this project belongs to the "world class" and that it represented his biggest challenge so far.

"The Pelesac Bridge is among the five largest European bridges across sea bays that were built at the beginning of the 21st century and belongs to the world class," Pipenbacher is quoted as saying.

As he assessed, the Pelesac Bridge, which connects the south of Croatia with the rest of the country, is important not only for Croatia, but also for the wider European space.

It is reported that the construction work on the bridge was carried out by the Chinese company China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), and Pipenbacher also emphasizes the fact that no one died during the construction.

In the meantime, several images showing the bridge construction process have been published - images, some coming from the ground and others from space.
