The Investigative Committee of Belarus handed over the criminal case of Yezhednevnik editor Syarhei Satsuk to the Prosecutor's Office.

From there, the case will be sent to court.

Siarhei Satsuk has been behind bars since December 8 last year.

He is being held in pre-trial detention center-1 on Volodarsky Street in Minsk.

The editor of Yezhednevnik was detained on December 8, 2021.

That day, the journalist's house was searched again, and Serhiy himself was placed in a pre-trial detention center.

The term of detention in this case was supposed to end in May.

In June, the former cellmate of the imprisoned journalist Satsuka contacted BAJ.

According to his words, a few days before the end of the term, Sergei was charged with new articles:

  • 130 part 2 of the Criminal Code — inciting enmity with the use of official powers;

  • 426 part 2 of the Criminal Code — exceeding official authority for selfish or other motives.

It is not known what specific actions of the editor are related to the accusation.

Satsuk previously complained about his health.

In February, his friends and family appealed to the Investigative Committee to release the journalist on their personal bail, but they were refused.

Human rights activists recognized Syarhei Satsuk as a political prisoner.
