It is a political decision for Russia to reduce the volume of gas transmitted through the Nord Stream-1 pipeline.

APA reports that Kadri Simson, the Commissioner for Energy Affairs of the European Union, told reporters before the emergency meeting of EU energy ministers to be held today.

"Yesterday's statement by Gazprom once again showed that we should be ready for Russia's gas export interruption at any time. And to be ready for this, we should take steps now. For this, we have proposed to reduce the demand for gas. This step will allow us to fill our gas storages. Note Let me tell you that currently the reserve of gas reservoirs in Europe is 66 percent," he stressed.

The EU commissioner said that there is no technical reason for Russia to reduce gas exports, and this decision is a politically based step: "That's why we should be ready for all this. The gas saving proposal proposed by the European Commission makes sense."

It should be recalled that on July 25, the Russian energy giant "Gazprom" announced that it will reduce the flow of natural gas to Europe by 20% through the main pipeline, citing equipment repair.
