A more even distribution of holidays and school days is proposed by the Ministry of Education and Science (MES) for the next school year.

According to the draft order published for public discussion, the vacation between the first and the second term will be five days - from February 1 to 5, 2023. Until now, it was only one day, which is too little to restore the strength of teachers and students.

To make up for the lack of recreation time, last winter the Minister of Education and Science declared four additional non-school days and, together with Saturdays and Sundays, schools closed for a total of nine days.

Now a longer inter-term break is becoming the norm.

The last day of October 2022 will be non-school.

Thus, the autumn vacation will be four days, including the November 1 holiday.

The last classes for 2022 will be on December 23.

Students will return to class on January 3, 2023. Easter vacation will begin on April 8, 2023 for students in grades I to XI and on April 12 for twelfth graders.

All will re-enter school on April 18, 2023.

Junior high school lessons are now 40 minutes

long As before, there will be no lessons on the days of the mandatory state matriculation exams and the national external assessment exams in grades VII and X.

If the proposal of the Ministry of Education and Culture is accepted, the matriculation exam in Bulgarian language and literature will be on May 19, 2023, and the exam in the second optional subject, as well as the one in theory for acquiring a professional qualification, on May 23, 2023.

Seventh-graders and tenth-graders will sit national external assessments on the same day and exams will start at different times, as before.

However, to reduce the risk of organizational errors, the start time difference has been increased to two hours and the tests will be from 9 am for class VII and from 11 am for class X respectively.

The exams in Bulgarian language and literature will be on June 13, 2023, and in mathematics - on June 16, 2023.
