Galagan has been the commander of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine since August 25, 2020, Ukrinform recalls.

TASS adds that previously Galagan was the deputy head of the Counter-Terrorism Center of the Security Service of Ukraine, and in the period 2014-2019 he participated in the fighting in Eastern Ukraine.

Major General Galagan, 44, has commanded special operations forces in Donetsk and Luhansk regions since August 2020. After Russia's invasion on February 24, Ukraine completely lost control of Luhansk region.

Russian troops have also captured about half of the territory of the neighboring Donetsk region, while before the invasion pro-Russian separatists controlled less than 30 percent of it.

Recently, Zelensky said that Kyiv has lost control over 20 percent of Ukraine's territory.

Meanwhile, the General Staff in Kyiv reported that a Russian unit had achieved success near a thermal power plant in Uglegorsk in Donetsk, which has been under attack for days.

On the nearby front, however, Russian attacks on the cities of Bakhmut and Seversk have been repelled, the Ukrainian military said.
