Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished President Draupadi Murmu for a fruitful presidential term.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said that President Draupadi Murmu's taking oath as the country's highest constitutional office is "an important moment for India, especially for the poor, marginalized and downtrodden".

President Murmu, 64, created history on Thursday by defeating opposition presidential candidate Yashwant Sinha to become the first tribal and the second woman to hold the top constitutional post.

"The whole nation watched with pride that Draupadi Murmu ji was sworn in as the President of India. Her taking over the presidency is a momentous moment for India, especially for the poor, marginalized and downtrodden. I wish her a Best wishes for a fruitful presidential term," tweeted PM Modi.

In another tweet, PM Modi said, "In his address after taking the oath, President Draupadi Murmu ji gave a message of hope and compassion. He emphasized on India's achievements and at a time when India is celebrating the Amrit Mahotsav of Independence. So presented a futuristic view of the way forward."

Earlier, Chief Justice of India N.

V. Ramna (CJI NV Ramna) administered the oath to Draupadi Murmu as the 15th President in a ceremony held in the Central Hall of Parliament today.

Addressing the people on the occasion, Murmu said, "I am the first President born in free India. My election includes the blessings of the poor."

He started his address by saying johar, namaskar.


In his first address, the new President said, "It is also a coincidence that when the country was celebrating the 50th year of its independence, then my political career started and today in the 75th year of independence, I have got this new responsibility.
