A 42-year-old man is to answer in the Vienna Land Court on Tuesday for the attempted murder of his wife.

According to the indictment, the father of ten children tried to kill his wife with electricity and the incriminated act is said to have happened in 2009.

The 42-year-old is described as a family tyrant with a penchant for sadism.

In addition to attempted murder, the man who came from Kosovo is also accused of severe coercion and continuous violence against his wife, whom he is accused of abusing for many years, writes wienna.at, reports albinfo.

In addition, he regularly punished his children with beatings and other punishments by forcing them to "choose" from a deck of cards what punishment they "wanted".

The sanctions listed in those letters were then applied.

In the worst case, it was 100 strokes, but if the children were lucky, they received a small gift in the form of sweets.

Regarding the central claim of the public prosecution, this delict is currently not included in the indictment and therefore is not the subject of the main hearing.

The accusation is mainly about an event that is said to have happened 13 years ago, in the family's apartment.

The man is alleged to have cut the cable from a kettle in the kitchen and entered the toilet with it, where the woman was taking a shower.

In the bathroom, he inserted the intact end of the cable into the socket and held the wires with the conductors of the other end against the woman's wet skin.

According to the prosecution, the only reason the woman did not suffer a fatal electric shock was because a circuit breaker suddenly cut off the current flow.

The prosecution supports the allegation of attempted murder, relying on the expertise of an electrical engineer.

The accused husband faces a long prison term.

The defendant was declared "not guilty" during the investigations.

The trial is scheduled to last two days.

For the 42-year-old, if found guilty as charged, the possible sentence is from ten to 20 years or life imprisonment.
