Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov

Sergei Viktorovich Lavrov is a Russian diplomat and has been the Minister of Foreign Affairs since 2004. Today he began his tour of Africa with a working visit to Egypt, TASS reported.

Lavrov arrived in Cairo last night.

The spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, announced that today he will talk with leaders of the Arab republic.

Lavrov begins a tour of Africa tomorrow to seek support

Lavrov's previous visit to Cairo was in April 2021, and his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry last visited Moscow in April this year.

Today's meetings are expected to pay particular attention to the situation in Ukraine, including in relation to grain supplies.

Egypt is the largest importer of wheat in the world, buying about 11-13 million tons each year, or half of the grain used in the country.

Russia and Ukraine are the main exporters, notes BTA.
