The White House announced yesterday that it is sending another $270 million worth of heavy weapons to Ukraine, bringing total military aid to the country to $8.2 billion since the start of the Biden administration.

The package includes four Hymars artillery systems.

Kyiv said the US-supplied high-tech long-range missile launchers were critical to a planned counter-offensive to retake territories that fell under Russian control.

Will US-supplied HIMARS missile systems to Ukraine change the balance of power?

The new US package also includes 36,000 artillery shells, vehicles and nearly 580 Phoenix Ghost drones.

Zelensky indicated that the war of attrition, now in its fifth month, could end by the end of the year if the West sticks to its promise to continue supplying Kyiv with the necessary weapons.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said this week that the long-range weapons Kyiv is receiving from the West have changed the dynamics of the war and that it is causing Moscow to reframe its goals.

Lavrov pointed out that to ensure the security of its forces, the Russian Defense Ministry must now work to push Ukrainian forces further from the front line, suggesting that Moscow will expand the focus of its invasion beyond the east of the country .
