Muraleedharan said, "In the present context, the opposition feels that any achievement of India will go to the account of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and hence it does not appreciate it.

In his half-hour speech, mostly in Malayalam, the minister said everyone has the right to criticize in a democracy but in his home state Kerala, someone can be jailed for criticizing the chief minister.

In a veiled attack on the Congress, he said that when central government agencies summon someone for questioning under the legal process, people take to the streets across the country to raise slogans of 'democracy is in danger'.

When Muraleedharan started leaving the conference, Kheda and Swaraj Abhiyan chief Yadav tried to stop him and requested him to leave after hearing the answers to the issues raised by him.

At the same time, Bhushan said in his keynote address that the role of money power in democracy has increased manifold.
