Two strong earthquakes of magnitude 5.7 and 5.8 shook Iran's southern province of Hormozgan in the Persian Gulf.

Authorities have sent rescue teams to the affected areas, but so far there have been no reports of serious damage, Reuters reports.

In early July, at least five people were killed and 49 injured as a result of a 6.1-magnitude earthquake that struck an area near the epicenter of today's tremor, the agency recalled.

And from the southern Iranian province of Fars, at least 22 victims were reported in flash floods caused by the heavy rains.

The governor of the province declared Sunday a day of mourning, state media reported, quoted by BNR.
