The European Union (EU) must adopt a new strategy on sanctions imposed in connection with the war in Ukraine.

APA reports with reference to "Reuters" that the Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orban, said this.

He noted that the sanctions against Moscow have failed and the EU has harmed itself.

Orban added that the new strategy should focus on peace, not on winning the war.

According to Orban, the West's strategy is based on four pillars: "First, Ukraine can win the war against Russia with NATO weapons, sanctions will weaken Russia and undermine its leadership, sanctions will hurt Russia more than Europe, and the world will line up to support Europe."

Orban stressed that this strategy has failed, governments in Europe have collapsed with the "domino effect", energy prices have increased and now a new strategy is needed.

"We are sitting in a car with all four tires punctured: it is absolutely clear that the war cannot be won this way," Orban said.

According to him, Ukraine will never win the war in this way, because the Russian army has an asymmetric advantage.
