The package of draft laws we introduced yesterday represents one of the key reforms as envisaged in the Recovery and Resilience Plan.

This is what the resigned Minister of Justice Nadezhda Yordanova said in the program "More of the Day" on BNT

Nadezhda Yordanova graduated from the Sofia University "St.

Kliment Ohridski".

These draft laws come to answer a long-standing problem - that there is a lack of an effective mechanism to investigate and hold the Attorney General accountable if there is a suspicion that he has committed a crime.

Over the years, Bulgaria has faced this problem.

It is high time to solve this really key structural issue, emphasized Yordanova.

The Justice Department is proposing that a judge chosen by judges could investigate the attorney general.

This judge will be selected from a list approved by the magistrates of the supreme court.

A judge will be chosen at random from this list.

A judge should be able to investigate the Attorney General, the Ministry of Justice proposes

Once elected, the judge will act as a prosecutor and consider whether to initiate pre-trial proceedings against the attorney general.

This magistrate will have the right to decide for himself whether to press charges or request a temporary suspension, Yordanova explained.

All this is not the invention of the current cabinet, but originates from a series of specific recommendations of the Venice Commission.

The current government refused to turn a blind eye and began to apply recognized international standards, the justice minister said.
