A proposal to change the Law on Life-Sustaining Medicines, which had loopholes for children with oncological and rare diseases, was submitted to the National Assembly.

This was announced by the chairman of the health commission in the National Assembly, Prof. Anton Tonev, on the air of "Your Day" on NOVA NEWS: "We are organizing an extraordinary commission on Tuesday next week in order to be able to meet the deadlines for public discussion of our proposal, with an idea on Wednesday or on Thursday, in two votes in one sitting, to pass this change, as it is short," he pointed out.

The deputy does not expect a discussion or a "fierce debate", and according to him, the changes have gathered support from all political forces.

The information about the problem reached the health commission about 10 days ago, and the change of the laws cannot be done in an urgent way, Tonev emphasized.

"We, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, prepared a change that went through all the preliminary preparations and was entered into the National Assembly late yesterday afternoon," he pointed out.

It is also being considered how the payment will be made in the time when there was no valid law, assured Associate Professor Anton Tonev.

"Such cases are decided when extremes are reached. Should it go to the point of engaging the media, engaging institutions?"

- asked the ombudsman Diana Kovacheva, learning on the air about the introduced changes, with which she is personally involved.

She is adamant that sustainable public health policies must be developed to avoid such situations.

"If the children cannot use these drugs, they cannot survive. This is not a matter of whim. At the moment, it is a period in which the parents have nowhere to find money. And as it became clear, it is a question of thousands of BGN", he commented Kovacheva.

Today, the ombudsman submits a recommendation to the Health Insurance Fund and the Ministry of Health to include patients who need expensive lenses for eye surgery in the insurance fund.

Today, Diana Kovacheva is in the National Assembly, as the deputies have to vote on her report for last year.

In 2021, over 65,000 people turned to her for support.
