Two large forest fires in the southern part of the Atlantic coast of France are growing, despite the efforts of firefighters in the last week to control the natural disasters, reports BTA.

Last night, the flames devastated another 300 hectares of land, the authorities in the Gironde department announced.

A French minister has called for more investment in fighting forest fires

A total of 20,600 hectares were burned near Landiras and Teste de Bouches, south of the city of Bordeaux.

President Emmanuel Macron is expected to visit the Gironde today.

Strong winds and drought in parts of France are fueling other wildfires, including in the western Brittany peninsula, where the fire has engulfed more than 1,700 hectares of forest near Braspar.

This forced the evacuation of hundreds of local residents.

The fire continues to spread in several areas in Italy.

14 cities are affected, including the capital Rome, Milan and Florence.

In the northern region of Tuscany, 500 people had to be evacuated overnight after flames approached several villages and caused explosions of liquefied natural gas tanks.

Residents of the northeastern region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia were urged to stay indoors because of thick smoke from a forest fire that broke out yesterday in the Karst region, which is located on the border with Croatia and Slovenia.
