It has defaulted in the supply of at least five consignments of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG).

After the Ukraine war, Europe and Western countries imposed strict sanctions on Russia.

In response, Russia also imposed retaliatory sanctions on companies in Europe supplying gas.

Due to this, there has been a default in the supply of at least five consignments of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) by Russia to India.

India's largest gas company Gail India Limited has entered into a long-term deal to import 2.85 million tonnes of LNG per annum from the Singapore-based unit of Russian gas producer Gazprom.

Since June, Gazprom has failed to supply five consignments of LNG under this contract.

For this, Gazprom has cited the difficulties in mobilizing gas due to restrictions.

Two sources gave information about this matter.

However, it is mentioned in the terms of the contract that the unsupplied quantity will be dispatched later.

But the Russian gas company has not yet given any indication as to when and how the gas from these five consignments will be adjusted.

According to sources, Gazprom has told GAIL that from now on it will do its best to supply LNG.

Meanwhile, GAIL has started exploring options for supply of gas from other sources in the US and Middle East.

Russia has imposed sanctions on 31 companies in the past few months.

These include Poland's portion of the Yamal Pipeline carrying Russian gas to Europe, as well as Gazprom's former unit in Germany.

The purpose of these sanctions was to cut off Russian gas supplies to approved entities.
