An excellent day for the country, but delayed, President Ilir Meta has considered the European Union's decision to open negotiations with Albania.

In a communication with journalists, the head of state, together with his congratulations, also conveyed the message to the institutions, to perform the tasks required by this process as soon as possible so that it does not last 30 years.

He called on citizens not to fall prey to campaigns that want to discourage and undermine the country's European future.

"I welcome the EU's strategic decision to start negotiations with the European Union.

Today, although a late day, is a great day for Albania.

It is a milestone placed by the Albanians and our partners.

Today is a great day for our region, a decisive day for the future where we have to face the reality as it is", said Meta.

"The truth is that we have wasted a lot of time, the document discovered by the EU is the mirror that reveals our fluctuations, disorientations and undone or badly done work.

It contains the conditions of the Bundestag, the remarks of France and the concerns expressed in the latest EU resolution", added Meta.

"Transformation requires time, effort and continuous work.

I call on the citizens not to fall prey to the campaigns that want to discourage us and undermine the European future, Albania's membership in the EU is worth every effort and sacrifice, because it is the only way that guarantees that our common home will have that the peace and prosperity that our compatriots seek in France, Germany, Britain and other countries.

I call on the institutions to reflect on the performance of urgent concrete tasks that this process requires.

It is up to us whether another 5 or 30 years pass.

Congratulations to all Albanian citizens and our friends who are closer to us today than yesterday", added the president.
