Four people have been shot dead at a nightclub in Marbella, Spain, after a gunman went on a rampage in the crowded space.

According to foreign media, Telegrafi reports, the shooting happened in the early hours of Monday morning at Opium Beach Club, a club known by British tourists in the Spanish holiday destination.

Footage shared online shows a brawl breaking out among guests in the VIP section, before one gunman pulled out a gun, causing chaos as party-goers fled in despair.

He was then stabbed in the head and beyond, the sources said, and remains in hospital in serious condition.

Police sources said the gunman was Dutch and one of the victims was an Irishman who was shot in the chest.

"One of the four people who suffered gunshot wounds is an Irishman.

He is the most injured of the gunshot victims.

He suffered a gunshot wound to the chest."

"The gunman who was arrested and suffered stab wounds is a Dutch citizen.

The other victims were shot in the back, leg and shoulder."

All other victims from the shooting remain in the hospital and their condition is not yet clear.
