Anton Shukeloyt
, a Belarusian public figure in the United States, was born.
After the annexation of Western Belarus to the BSSR in 1939, Shukeloyt worked as a teacher in Ashmyan region.
He organized the first Belarusian secondary school in Ashmyan, teacher courses and about 90 Belarusian schools on the territory of the former Ashmyan district.
During the Nazi occupation, Shukeloit worked in the Department of Education and Culture of the Minsk City Council, then became the head of the Belarusian Historical Museum.
Since 1944 he lived in exile.
He was an active participant in the life of the Belarusian diaspora in the USA.
He died on January 7, 2017.
