The meeting between Prime Minister Albin Kurti and five policemen injured in the operation carried out last night in a village of Leposaviq in the north of Kosovo has ended.

The meeting lasted more than an hour and the director of the Kosovo Police, Samedin Mehmeti, also participated.

There were no media statements after the meeting.

Meanwhile, the Government has said that there will also be press releases.

According to KP, five of its officials were injured during an action to stop a truck in the north of Kosovo, which was suspected of smuggling goods.

The policemen received medical treatment, while a police car was also damaged.

According to the announcement, in the evening hours of July 16, in the village of Jashanicë in Leposaviq, police officials noticed the truck that was suspected of smuggling goods, but in an attempt to stop the truck, the police were prevented by two civilian vehicles.

The police say that they then partially blocked the Mitrovica-Jarinje highway with two police vehicles.

The police officers then continued to escort the truck, which continued to travel at high speed on the Mitrovica-Jarinje highway.

"In an ongoing effort to stop him, the truck driver hit the police car for the second time, causing injuries to the police officers as well as causing significant material damage," the announcement states.

Otherwise, during the first quarter of this year, 33 officials of institutions in Kosovo - most of them police officers who were attacked while performing their duties.

Meanwhile, regarding injuries during the performance of official duty, the police announces that in 2021 there are a total of 208, while in the six months of 2022 there are 116.

Not more than three months ago, members of the Kosovo Police in the north faced successive attacks.

From April 13-26 they were attacked six times in a row.

Unknown persons fired at the police vehicles with automatic weapons, AK 47 and hand grenades.

Also, metal urchins were placed on the road and other strong tools.

There were no human injuries, only material damage.

Regarding these attacks, the authorities in Kosovo said that they are conducting intensive investigations, but it is not yet known if there are any arrested persons or suspects.
