On July 18, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the EU Commissioner for Energy, Kadri Simson, will visit Azerbaijan to further strengthen the existing cooperation between the EU and Azerbaijan.

APA reports that this was stated in the information released by the European Commission.

It was noted that the diversification of energy imports is the main priority for the EU in a situation where Russia continues to use energy supplies as a weapon.

"The Southern Gas Corridor plays a key role in the supply of natural gas to the EU, especially to Southeast Europe.

The EU and Azerbaijan are also working together to build a long-term partnership on clean energy and energy efficiency as both sides realize the goals of the "green transition" and the Paris Agreement.

The EU and Azerbaijan are negotiating a new comprehensive agreement that will allow for a wide range of cooperation, including economic diversification, investment, trade and full use of the potential of civil society.

President von der Leyen and Commissioner Simson will meet with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.

After the meeting, President von der Leyen will hold a joint press conference with President Ilham Aliyev.
