Heavy rains lashed Ahmedabad on Sunday, causing the water level of some rivers to rise.

Due to incessant rains due to southwest monsoon, a flood-like situation has arisen in Gujarat and Telangana.

Heavy rains lashed many parts of south and central Gujarat, raising the water level of some rivers and inundating various low-lying areas, forcing more than 1,500 people to be shifted to safer places.

Officials gave this information on Sunday.

The Meteorological Department has forecast heavy to very heavy rains in the next five days in Dang, Navsari and Valsad districts of South Gujarat.

Some low-lying areas of Valsad were flooded after the water level in the Orsang river rose, officials said.

The Cauvery and Ambika rivers are flowing above the danger mark, so Navsari district officials are also on alert.

Here, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel held a meeting with the District Collectors of the State Emergency Operations Center on Sunday to review the steps taken to deal with the situation arising due to heavy rains in South Gujarat including Chhotaudepur.

Ahmedabad received heavy rains on Sunday, causing the water level of some rivers to rise, inundating various low-lying areas.

In view of this, permission has been given to keep schools and colleges closed.

River floodgates raised

The water level of Godavari and Krishna rivers rose in Telangana, after which the flood gates of these rivers were raised.

At the same time, the crest gates of twin reservoirs in Hyderabad, Osmansagar and Himayatsagar were also raised last evening.

Roads have been damaged at some places in North Telangana due to the rains. 

Due to the incessant rain, the IMD has extended the red alert till July 13.

Red alert has been issued for eight North and Northeast districts.

Here, Adilabad, Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Peddapalli, Bhupalpally, have received more than 20 centimeters of rain in May.

Here, in Karnataka also a red alert has been issued regarding rain.

The alert is for some other districts including Coastal Karnataka, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada.

In such a situation, a holiday has been declared in schools and colleges in all these districts.
