The initiative of the Albanian government to legalize cannabis for medical purposes has attracted attention even outside the borders.

In a long article of the famous American magazine 'Forbes' it is said that Albania is expected to be added to the countries that have already taken this step.

In the article, it is emphasized that cultivation, production and trade will be intended only for export.

"Forbes" also cites the draft law submitted for public consultation, according to which the production of medical cannabis and industrial cannabis will be allowed for up to 150 hectares of land starting in 2023.

It will be the Council of Ministers that will grant licenses for the production of cannabis for 15 years with the right of renewal.

Cannabis businesses that want to operate in the medical and industrial cannabis sectors in Albania must show that they have capital over $86,000, employ at least 15 people and pay a fee of 1.5% of the company's annual turnover.

In the "Forbes" article, there is a long description of the Albanian government's confrontation with the phenomenon of cannabis cultivation, the opposition's accusations of linking government officials with drug trafficking and international reports on this phenomenon.

Forbes also cites the national consultation where over 308 thousand citizens voted in favor of the legalization of medical cannabis, 148 thousand were against and 51 thousand did not give any opinion on this issue, TVklan announces.
