Congress President Sonia Gandhi has also condoled the killing of Abe.

He said that I am shocked by the assassination of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

He was a friend and well wisher of India. 

Sonia Gandhi's message has been shared from the Congress's official Twitter account, in which Sonia Gandhi wrote, "I am shocked by the assassination of former Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe. Abe was a friend and well-wisher of India for many years. The bilateral ties between the countries had grown and deepened. I remember my meeting with them very fondly and alive. It is a great misfortune for Japan and indeed the entire international community, they will be missed."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also expressed grief over the killing of Shinzo Abe.

Along with this, PM Modi has announced a day of national mourning. 

Let us tell you that Japanese government spokesman Hirokazu Matsuno had earlier told reports that Shinzo Abe was attacked shortly before 12 noon.

He was shot in the western region of the country, Nara.

A person who is believed to be the shooter has been arrested.
