Greece will become a center for the storage and transmission of natural gas, which will cover not only the national needs, but also those of the countries of the region, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said today

Kyriakos Mitsotakis - Greek economist and politician. Mitsotakis was born in Athens on March 4, 1968 at a joint press conference with his Romanian colleague Nicolae Chuka, Agerpress agency reported.

The Romanian Prime Minister is on a working visit to Greece today on the occasion of the commissioning of the intersystem gas connection Greece-Bulgaria.

"We agreed to update our cooperation in the energy sector. Greece will become a center for the storage and transmission of natural gas, which will cover not only national needs, but also the needs of the region and, of course, Romania," he said at the press conference Mitsotakis.

According to him, it is not only about a trade cooperation agreement, but also about proof of solidarity and responsibility.

"Tomorrow we will open the gas pipeline to Alexandroupolis, and this will be an important step forward in our structures and infrastructures, which are so important to achieve independence from natural gas coming from Russia," Mitsotakis said, pointing out that Moscow uses natural gas as a geostrategic " tool'.

Romanian Prime Minister Nicolae Chuca said for his part that the intersystem gas connection Greece-Bulgaria is extremely important for the transmission network to Europe.

"This is a very important interconnector for the entire gas transmission network in Europe. In principle, this interconnector will connect the network that passes through Anatolia and the Adriatic and will connect to the BRUA gas pipeline, thus giving stability to the vertical corridor and ensuring supplies of gas for Bulgaria and Romania," said Nicolae Chuka.

He added that in this way gas supplies can be ensured for the eastern partners Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova, as well as for the other countries that are included in the distribution scheme of this gas network.

Nicolae Chuca announced that the energy ministers of Romania and Greece will sign a memorandum for joint mid-term and long-term projects, BTA adds.
