The Prime Ministers of Greece and Romania discussed energy cooperation and current bilateral and international topics at a meeting today in Athens, Agerpress agency reports.

At a press conference after the meeting, the Greek Prime Minister stated that Greece will become a center for the storage and transmission of natural gas, which will cover not only the national needs, but also those of the countries of the region.

The Romanian Prime Minister, who is on a working visit to Greece on the occasion of the commissioning of the intersystem gas connection Greece-Bulgaria, noted that this interconnector is extremely important for the gas transmission network to Europe and will ensure the supply of gas to Bulgaria and Romania, as well as for Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova.

The Greek prime minister noted at the press conference that Russia uses natural gas as a geostrategic "tool" and stressed that by invading Ukraine, Russia violated international law with "brutal claims." 

Mitsotakis said that the talks with the Romanian Prime Minister were also devoted to ways to help Ukraine in the export of agricultural products.

"We will try to find different opportunities, different ways, different ways to export and transport Ukraine's agricultural products to international markets," Mitsotakis said. 

He announced that he informed the Romanian Prime Minister about the "provocations" of Turkey, which "often call into question the international conventions and the fundamental rights" of Greece.
