A Muslim religious leader was shot dead in Maharashtra's Nashik on Tuesday.

The name of the religious guru is Syed Chishti, who was known as Sufi Baba.

Syed Chishti was a citizen of Afghanistan and had been living in Yewla, Nashik for many years.

According to local SP Sachin Patil, eyewitnesses have told that his driver shot dead.

Interrogation of a suspect is going on in this case.

Syed Chishti, being an Afghan citizen, could not buy land in his own name.

So, he had built the property by taking the local people along.

It is suspected that the murder may have taken place over a land dispute.

However, the police is still investigating.

Police have denied any religious angle. 

The murder took place on an open plot in the MIDC area of ​​the town.

The attackers shot him in the head, after which he died on the spot.

After the murder, the attackers fled from the spot in Sufi Baba's SUV. 

The police have started searching for the killers by registering a case of murder.
