Moitra is still following her party chief Mamata Banerjee while only unfollowing the party handle.

Kolkata:

Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra has been embroiled in controversy due to her remarks on Goddess Kali during a media event.

After this controversy, he has unfollowed the official handle of his party.

Mahua Moitra later said that her statement about Devi has been misrepresented by the trolls.

Mahua said that trolls projected her statement as 'support' for a highly controversial documentary.

The MP had told an India Today conference in Kolkata that he had every right to imagine Goddess Kali as a person as a "meat-eater and a wine-accepter" as each person has a god in his own way. have the right to worship.

Mahua says, "For example if you go to Bhutan or Sikkim you will find that when they worship they give whiskey to their god. Now if you go to Uttar Pradesh and say that If you give whiskey as prasad to your god, he will say it is blasphemy."

“For me, Goddess Kali is a meat eater and a wine acceptor. And if you go to Tarapith (a major Shakti Peeth in West Bengal’s Birbhum district), you will see sadhus smoking. There is an opportunity to worship Kali. This is the way. I have the right to imagine Kali in this way, within Hinduism, as a worshiper of Kali, that is my freedom," said Mahua Moitra.

"I have the freedom to do it (imagine a flesh-eating goddess) as much as you have the freedom to worship your god in a vegetarian and white dress," he said.

Trinamool Congress leader and filmmaker Leena Manimekalai was responding to a query on the controversy over a poster tweeted by her which showed Devi smoking.

The BJP quickly caught hold of the viral remark and questioned whether insulting Hindu deities was the official stand of the ruling party in West Bengal.

He said, "Trinamool supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee should clarify. This is not the first time such cases have come to the fore. Trinamool leaders have done the same thing before. We think it is the ruling Trinamool. The official stand of the Congress is to get votes by hurting the Hindu public," BJP leader Ratindra Bose said.

Moitra retaliated and gave a very sharp reaction.

“To all you Sanghis – lying cannot make you a better Hindu. I have never endorsed any film or poster or mentioned the word smoking. I suggest you visit my mother Kali at Tarapith, To see what food and drink is offered as bhog. Joy Maa Tara," the MP wrote.

To all you sanghis- lying will NOT make you better hindus.

I NEVER backed any film or poster or mentioned the word smoking.

Suggest you visit my Maa Kali in Tarapith to see what food & drink is offered as bhog.
