Against the background of the chaos at airports in Europe, the situation at Sofia Airport is calm.

This was stated by the airport's communications director Rosen Bachvarov for "The Day Begins".

This is because processes are optimized in a way that allows for very fast service, he said.

Maintaining good efficiency is because no staff has been laid off due to the covid crisis.

"The reason we are more flexible is that during the covid crisis we did not release anyone. And now we are introducing new processes of coordination with the various airport services, such as the Border Police, Customs, Sofia Airport employees," Bachvarov said.

Last week was the busiest day with about 1,000 passengers per hour and the average time to pass through screening and border control was 11 minutes.

This, according to Bachvarov, is 10 plus times faster and more efficient than in European airports.

1,800 employees currently work at Sofia Airport.

The focus is to turn the airport into a five-star regional airport by 2028, which implies a complete reform of processes and structures and digitization.
