The construction and repair works on the water cycle in the Pernik district have started.

The project covers the territories of Pernik and Radomir and has a total value of nearly BGN 101 million.

In Pernik, more than 14 km of water supply pipes will be replaced and about 30 km of sewage network will be rehabilitated and built.

Activities in Radomir include over 2 km of transit water pipeline, 10 km of distribution network, plus rehabilitation and construction of nearly 7 km of sewage network.

Radomir and five settlements in Pernishko are without water

The project also includes the reconstruction of the "Batanovtsi" wastewater treatment plant, 3 new drinking water tanks and the rehabilitation of a pumping station in Pernik, two sewer pumping stations and pushers in Radomir, as well as the construction of building water supply and sewage diversions in the two cities.

"It cannot be expected from this project that it will solve all the problems of ViK-Pernik, related to the sewerage and water supply, but still quite a large part of them are being replaced," Borislav Ivanov, the manager of ViK-Pernik, told the BNR.

He pointed out that after the replacement of about 56 km of water pipes in Pernik in addition to the water crisis, there was a significant decrease in accidents, water losses also decreased: "So this is the way to solve things," Ivanov said.

The first sod on the water cycle will be made in Radomir on July 7.

The activities in the city of Pernik are expected to start within a few weeks.
