Mumbai recorded 21 mm of rain from 8 am to 6 pm on Monday

Mumbai:

Heavy rains lashed Mumbai and its adjoining areas on Monday night and Tuesday morning, submerging many parts of the city. 

Water logging was observed in various areas of Mumbai, leading to serious traffic jams in the city.

Images circulating on social media showed residents in knee-deep water on the streets of Sion and Andheri.

Waterlogging was seen in many areas of Mumbai.

Train and bus services were also affected due to floods in many low-lying areas and railway tracks.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed its teams for emergency services in view of heavy rains in general in Mumbai and Coastal Maharashtra.

The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for the region for the next five days.


Meanwhile, a yellow alert has been issued for Mumbai and Thane districts with heavy to very heavy rainfall predicted at isolated places.

The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rains in many areas of Mumbai and Thane.

Of the eight NDRF teams in Maharashtra, one each is stationed in Nagpur, Chiplun and Malad, while the remaining five teams are in Mumbai.

Train and bus services have been disrupted due to rain.  

According to civic officials, Mumbai recorded 21 mm of rain from 8 am to 6 pm, while the eastern and western suburbs received 17 mm and 25 mm of rain, respectively.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has directed officials to monitor the situation and keep National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) squads ready, the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) said on Tuesday.

Water logging was also seen at several railway stations in Mumbai. 

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde held discussions with Chief Secretary Manukumar Srivastava and directed the Guardian Secretaries of all the concerned districts to remain alert and control the situation.


At many places, the railway track was flooded due to which train service was disrupted.
