The reduction of the VAT rate to zero for bread and flour is not reflected in the daily prices for now, except in some retail chains, where they announced a reduction in the price of types of bread in the form of a promotion until the end of the month.

The most gloomy forecasts are that the measure will not lead to a decrease in the price of bread for consumers.

Today, former Minister of Agriculture Mehed Dikme explained on the air that we are already importing low-quality wheat and other grains from Ukraine.

And the following extra was formed - let's pay more for bread, and it will be more rude!

In such cases, many misquote the French Queen Marie-Antoinette, who allegedly told the crowd that stormed the palace: "If they have no bread, let them eat pasta!"

Interpreters of the legend, however, are adamant that the queen was not so ruthless and cynical, but simply wanted to clarify that at that time there was flour for pasta, but not for bread, and that is why she expressed herself that way.

But...

What should the dear consumer in our country do today in order not to be in the role of being screwed over, I ask the chairman of the "Active Users" Association, Dr. Bogomil Nikolov.

"We at the association have long been supporters of reduced VAT rates, arguing that this will benefit consumers, not only in terms of price, but also because of the reduction of poor quality.

Because by reducing VAT, it reduces and pushes to use cheaper substitutes.

But after last year's experiment with VAT in establishments, it became clear to us that this measure makes sense for consumers only in regulated markets.

That is, if the VAT is reduced for electricity, heat, gas, fuels, at regulated prices, this tax is charged for accounting and cannot be played with the price.

In other industries, it should only be seen as helping him, but not for us, the consumers.

It became clear what exactly is happening - traders take tax credits for 20%, charge 9% and keep the difference for themselves.

This is the situation.

We have no false expectations that the price of bread will fall.

In our opinion, the important decisions are in the area of people's incomes in Bulgaria - this should be worked on.

We cannot hope to calm the prices in the market, because they are an objective quantity.

Regulated prices will only lead to deficits, to speculation.

Therefore, it is important for the state to take care of the socially vulnerable sections of the population.

The rest, if private individuals refuse to raise wages, form unions and fight - that's freedom, to fight for your rights.

For a long time ago in Bulgaria feed grain was widely used for the production of flour, unfortunately.

For example, why don't Italians get fat by eating more than us?

Because their products are made from quality durum wheat.

While we here eat feed grain with additives and enhancers.

Not only do we import bad grain, we sow it.

In my opinion, it is important at the moment, as I mentioned, that the state maintains a solid social policy for people with lower incomes.

We now have to calculate how much bread can be bought with one pension.

How many sour milks, etc.

and to hold a certain level in this regard, instead of struggling with untried measures and testing what and how will affect prices, while in fact people's purchasing power is falling.

That should be the focus.

Otherwise, we live in an open world, with an open market, and we have to get used to being vulnerable to all kinds of crises.

And to have a developed reflex mechanism with which to defend the socially weak."
