A 26-year-old man who ran one of the world's largest child sex abuse sites has been sentenced to two years in prison for concealing ill-gotten gains, Yonhap reported.

The Seoul Central District Court jailed Son Jong-woo, who had already served an 18-year sentence for maintaining the site through which videos of child sexual abuse victims were exchanged.

He must also pay a 5 million won fine.

Son was released in July 2020 after serving his sentence for maintaining the dark web site.

More than 250,000 videos of child sexual abuse have been uploaded and sold to more than 1.28 million people.

Two months before Son's release, his father filed a report accusing his son of concealing proceeds of crime.

The goal was to prevent the son from being extradited to the US, where charges have been brought against him.

South Korea's justice minister has rejected a request to extradite him to the United States.

Today, the court found Son guilty of concealing about 400 million won earned from child pornography, turning it into cryptocurrencies.

He was also found guilty of using 5.6 million won of proceeds of crime for online gambling.

"The defendant has decided to conceal his proceeds of crime from the time he first became involved in running a child pornography website.

He hid his proceeds through complex transactions in a methodical and complex manner," the court ruled.

Son was initially arrested in March 2018 when the US Department of Justice tracked down the cryptocurrency exchange.

Law enforcement agencies from many countries worked together to save at least 23 minor victims.

Hundreds of people in many countries have been arrested for using the site.
