New Delhi :

The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has issued guidelines to prevent unfair trade practices and violation of consumer rights in relation to levying service charges in hotels/restaurants.

According to these guidelines issued by CCPA, hotels or restaurants will no longer be able to add service charge to their food bill automatically or by default.

It has been directed in the guidelines that the service charge will not be recovered by any other name.

No hotel or restaurant shall compel any consumer to pay a service charge and shall expressly inform the consumer (consumer) that the service charge is voluntary, optional and purely at its discretion.
