At least three people have lost their lives during the explosions that occurred in the Russian city of Belgorod, which is located near the border with Ukraine, regional governor Vychlav Gladskov has announced.

"The explosions partially destroyed 11 collective buildings and 39 houses," said Gladkov, Telegrafi transmeotn.

He added that the anti-aircraft system was activated immediately after the explosions.

CNN has not tried to confirm the governor's statement, while there has been no reaction from Ukraine so far.

Gladkov revealed the information about this on his Telegram channel.

The Russian city of Belgorod has 400,000 inhabitants, and is located only 40 kilometers north of the border with Ukraine.

The Russians are accusing the Ukrainians of this attack, stressing that it is a direct aggression that requires a serious military response

On the other hand, the Ukrainian authorities have called today's incidents in Belgorod "karma" while denying responsibility.

Since Russia began its invasion of Ukraine on February 24, thousands of civilians and soldiers have been killed and injured, while 12 million Ukrainians have been displaced from their homes.
