They closed several beaches in Egypt after an Austrian woman died in a shark attack near the resort of Hurghada, reported Reuters, quoted by BTV.

The 68-year-old woman was swimming near the resort when the sea predator attacked her.

The victim was transferred to a local private hospital immediately after the attack, a source from the Directorate of Health Affairs in the Red Sea told Reuters.

He adds that there were resuscitation attempts, but she died.

A video circulating online purportedly shows the woman being attacked by a Mako shark relatively close to shore.

In the video, the water around the woman turns red with blood as passersby on the pier throw her a life jacket.

It remains unclear how she managed to reach the shore.
