Attack of phone fraudsters in Pazardzhik region.

This was reported by the regional directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Police spokesman Miroslav Stoyanov told BNT that calls to landline and mobile phones of elderly and single people in the regional town and nearby villages were intercepted.

The scheme used is classic, but with slight additional variations.

In most cases, fraudsters contact their potential victims through landline home phones and use a well-known scheme.

Initially, a stranger poses as a police officer who is part of an entire department or team investigating phone fraud.

The stranger even introduces himself by name and position - Commissioner Petrov, Senior Commissioner Ivanov, etc.

He warns the victim that he is on the list of phone scammers and they will contact him soon.

During the conversation, the supposed policeman asks if he has another phone, mobile or landline.

Not long after, the other phone rings and reports that a terrible accident has occurred.

A loved one, a relative, was injured in the melee, and an expensive and urgent operation was needed to save him.

In the meantime, the victim has not hung up the first handset, and from it the voice of the supposed policeman reassures the worried woman that everything is under control.

He assures her that they are keeping a close eye on the fraudsters and will soon catch them.

For this, the "commissioner" advises the victim to prepare his available money or valuables.

They would serve as bait for the crooks, to throw them through the window of the terrace or from the door, and after catching the bandits they would be returned to her.

A man from Sandanski gave a large amount to phone scammers

The police appeal to citizens to be vigilant, not to give in to calls from strangers, not to give money or valuables to strangers under any pretext, even if they pretend to be police officers.

If there are such calls, they should call their loved ones and inform them about what happened or call 112.
