Fifteen flights to and from Spain were canceled and 175 were delayed today due to a strike by the cabin crew of two low-cost airlines - the Irish Ryanair and the British EasyJet - at the height of the tourist season, France Press reported. , citing unions in the industry.

A total of 190 flights were affected.

10 Ryanair flights were canceled and 123 were delayed.

At EasyJet, five flights were canceled and 52 flights were delayed, respectively.

The Spanish union of Ryanair employees, meanwhile, decided to extend their strike for another 12 days.

The protests will be spread over three four-day periods - from July 12 to 15, from July 18 to 21 and from July 25 to 28.

The 10 airports in Spain to and from which Ryanair operates flights will be affected.

"After six days of strike action and given the company's unwillingness to listen to its staff, and as it prefers to leave thousands of passengers on the ground rather than sit down to negotiate a deal under Spanish law, we have been forced to call for new days of strike action," said USO spokeswoman Lydia Arasans.

Chaos reigns at airports in Spain

The Ryanair strike demanding better working conditions for the airline's 1,900 cabin crew in Spain began on June 24.

So far it has covered two three-day periods.

Nearly 450 easyjet stewards and stewardesses in Spain were called to strike from yesterday until tomorrow, including with demands for equal working conditions with their colleagues from other airlines.

Their protest actions will continue for two more three-day periods - July 15-17 and July 29-31. 

Since the start of the Ryanair cabin crew strike in Spain, more than 200 flights have been canceled and nearly 1,000 flights delayed, BTA notes.
