The 140-meter-long Zhibek Joly ship, flying the Russian flag, dropped anchor about a kilometer from the port of Karasu on the Turkish coast, east of Istanbul, according to data from the Maritime Traffic website, which monitors the movement of ships.

"Zhibek Joly" from the occupied Berdyansk has entered the port of Karasu.

At the request of the Ukrainian prosecutor, we asked the Turkish side to take the necessary measures," Ambassador Vasil Bodnar said on Twitter.

Although it did not specify what kind of cargo was on board, the message suggests that the diplomat suspects the presence of Ukrainian grain, according to AFP.

According to "Maritime Traffic" data, the ship switched off its transponder 12 hours before approaching Turkey.

The transponder, which is mandatory during navigation, transmits a satellite signal that allows the permanent location of ships.

The Ukrainian diplomat indicated that he highly appreciates the "good communication and intensive cooperation with the Turkish authorities".

Reuters cited a Ukrainian foreign ministry official who, citing information from the country's maritime administration, said the Zhibek Joli had loaded the first cargo of about 4,500 tons of grain from Berdyansk, which the official said belonged to Ukraine.

In a June 30 letter to Turkey's Justice Ministry, Ukraine's Prosecutor General's Office separately said the Zhibek Joli was involved in "illegal export of Ukrainian grain" from Berdyansk and headed for Karasu, Turkey, with 7,000 tons of cargo, which is a larger load than specified by the official.

Ukraine's Prosecutor General's Office asked Turkey "to carry out an inspection of this maritime vessel, to seize samples of the grain for forensic examination, to request information on the whereabouts of this grain," the letter said, adding that Ukraine was ready to jointly investigation with the Turkish authorities.
